Hello. i have a 17 year old irish draft mare with bad sweet itch worsening an spreading by the summer. i have been using a boet rug the last two summers but it often gets ripped very easily and is expensive to replace. its all over her rump, top of tail withers main an top of head! And although the rug covers all these parts she still scratches sumwhat an thats how it rips. her personality totally changes also from april to october, and every year her winter break gets shorter. she's a brilliant horse otherwise and still has life left in her. she gets so irritated an frustrated every summer. what is there out there left to do? Really havent found anything decent yet! Any new inventions? tryed the sterroid injection which also hd no effect, and summer freedom.
How should i treat a 17 year old mare with sweet itch?
Tell me about it, my gelding would scatch himself to death if i let him, its such an awful allergy, no wonder why they get grumpy in the ummer months, it just makes them so irritable. nearly all of the treatments i use have been listed, but before the season starts i Put the boett rug on before the flys come back, but as soon as hes been bitten or shows signs of scratching i put benzol benoate (can't spell) on his whithers, top of the tail, face, flanks and anywhere he can easily scratch, this soothes the skin of the itch, this helps prevent rubbing. If he does manage to rub skin off and open wounds i put sudacrem on the wounds and the put hair regrowth and itch stop cream (pink cream) on where he's rubbed his coat off, this helps it grow back quick and soothes raw and irritated skin. On top of all this i put a 24hr fly spray on him twice a day as he lives out all year, no luxury of a stable, but at dusk when the flys are at their worst i put him in the indoor arean for a bit of protection, he either stays in their for an hour or so or i put a hay bail in and he'll stay their for the night depending on how bad he is! Also he gets some sweet itch suppliment that he is fed everyday (all year) with mollychop, i'm not sure whats its called as its just in a white tub and my farrier gave it to me, i think it contains garlic and vitamins E, B, D. Also i read a year ago in a magazine that marmite given to a sweet itch sufferer everyday will repel the flys, so i thought anything would be worth a try if it helped, so he gets an apple covered in marmite everyday and to my surprise it worked, he was getting bitten less, it was something to do with the vitamins in it, it might sound stupid, but it works!
btw i've tried the steriod injection and the anti-inflamitry, the steroid made him irritable, but had no effect on the sweet itch, so it was worthless really. But the anti-inflamitry works, but it was expensive, it soothed the skin and cleared it up for a while, but it didn't last very long until he'd start to rub again and break skin. It horrible to have a horse with sweet itch, its not the care thats the problem it having to watch them scratch and scratch because they're constanly itchy, but all we can do is try and prevent and sooth until a cure comes along. good luck!
Reply:wow this sweet itch isnt helping any one. I think that theys fly blankets and a little bit of medicashion does the trick. you just half to pay alot more atenchen to your hore. Report It
Reply:Cure her Sweet Itch first. If she keeps ripping a rug, get the best quality one you can find, which will be expensive, but will last.
Reply:I hear you - we have that problem with one of ours.
Obviously stabling overnight is a great help and pasture drainage if possible.
We tried a sheet but that didn't work either.
The only way we have found of managing it involves Dermoline Sweet Itch lotion ( that's the one that works best for him - we tried many different ones) Unfortunately this means that he goes through half the year looking like he's has an oil bath - it's just impossible to keep him looking nice. Cider vinegar did nothing but garlic in his feed does help.
last year he actually managed to keep most of his mane which is better than usual.
The lotion is around £17 a bottle and you need to start applying it before the midges arrive.
Reply:hi i had the same problem with my mare i used a supplement in her feed every day and also garlic supplements helped a treat. Also i used benzly on my horses tail to soothe it and then i used a nasty smelling cream which you can get at any local tack shop to keep fly off .
p.s wash your horses tail onece a week with a fly rinse use plenty off fly spray when out in the padock.
louise x good luck
Reply:you should just treat the horse with a little tlc(tender loving care) or check and see if the ointment you are using is harmfull to the horse( allergic that kind of stuff)
Reply:There are three separate approaches here. Firstly, and most importantly, you need to decrease your horse’s exposure to the Culicoides flies. Secondly, we need to kill the flies that do attack your horse, and thirdly we need to stop the horse itching.
Fly control:
* Best begun before the start of the fly season.
*Insect-proof stables using fine-mesh screens.
*Use ceiling or wall mounted fans in stables to create a breeze – flies will find it harder to land on the horse.
*Stable horses one hour each side of sunrise and sunset, as this is when flies are most active.
*Stabling at night may also help.
*Try using commercially available sheets and hoods to rug the horse with when he is turned out.
*Culicoides flies breed around ponds and marshes, but do not fly more than a few hundred metres from their breeding areas. Moving horses farther than half a mile from such areas should dramatically reduce fly exposure.
*Improve pasture drainage to prevent fly breeding.
*Similarly, clean the water trough regularly to prevent flies breeding here.
Insecticides:
*Insecticides containing pyrethrins or pyrethroids are best. Treatment may have to be applied weekly or fortnightly in worst affected cases.
*We recommend (and supply) the pour-on preparation ‘Switch’.
*Insect repellents, such as benzyl benzoate, will keep flies away, but need to be constantly reapplied.
Anti-allergy treatment:
Corticosteroids remain the most useful product for treating the skin allergy. As steroids do have side-effects in horses, they must only be prescribed by a vet. They are very potent anti-inflammatories which will stop the itching and allow the skin to heal.
Anti-histamines are not as useful in the horse as they are in man. They tend to be very expensive, and often not particularly effective.

Any One have any ideas for my sweet 16 theme?
My birthday is in about a month, i have my theme which is Snowy White Winter Wonderland, but i don't know how to make it come alive? Any suggestions, ideas would rock. Thanx
Soon to be Sweet 16
Any One have any ideas for my sweet 16 theme?
I love the winter theme idea! It should be easy to make it happen. Even though "white" is in your theme, don't forget that pale, icy blue and silver are great for a winter look. If the tables are covered with ice blue cloths, then pure white dishware and decorations (sparkly snowflakes) will really show off nicely. For a drama. try large bare tree branches, spray-painted white and dusted with clear or silver sparkle. Put large branches (the size of small trees) into big pots and keep them upright with pea gravel. Smaller branches poked into floral foam (cover exposed foam with glue and a dusting of fake snowflakes) will make awesome table pieces. This time of year you can find all kinds of snow/ice decorations at craft stores like Joann's......Use clear twinkle lights everywhere and you will have a party that will have people talking for ages!
Reply:How bout I wear my sunglasses at night theme...it would work for winter, but still help remember great times from the summer...then you could hand out sunglasses for favors, have the most stylish glasses award, or come up with soooo many other ideas...not to mention that music would be easy...

I tried my best but Girl rejects me for winter formal and prom?
I have been talking to this one girl for about 4-5 months,we hang out 1-2 times a month. She's one of the most interesting girl I ever met.I tried my best to show her that I'm a great and nice guy but at times i can feel a distance. So after about a month hanging out and talking to her I asked her casually/straight out to winter formal and i got a "maybe"which is no.So I was disappointed, but I thought to myself maybe it was too fast,so I continued to stick around and believed maybe if I give her some time I'll grow on her and she'll be more comfortable. So a few months later we still talked to eachother, hung out, etc.I noticed now she is now quite comfortableThen recently prom comes around and I pop the question but this time with some flowers and some other stuff. She isflattered starts to say how nice Iam and sweet, but struggles to answer.I told her its okay I will understand I just want a straightanswer. It was no. So now what?I tried, but now I am dateless for my senior highschool prom.
I tried my best but Girl rejects me for winter formal and prom?
Hey man I understand your pain. It sounds like this girl is just not into you, for whatever reason. Now you know this girl will only and possibly always just be a friend. Don't take it personally, suck it up, move on, and find a girl that will say yes. Even if its a friend, its better than not going or going solo. This is your senior year, make the most of what time you have left.
If you want to make a huge splash, get an escort...

What should I do for my Sweet 16?
I'm turning 16 towards the end of December (winter) and I still have no idea what to do.
I don't want to have a huge formal thing because I'm not too big on being the center of attention.
I just want a party with anywhere from 10-20 people that I'm close friends with.
The only ideas I can think of involve warmer weather (beach, park, Hawaiian Luau, etc) so they're not realistic. I don't really want to wait another half a year to have my party...that just seems silly to me. It seems less meaningful to not have my Sweet 16 party, if not the day of, then at least within a week or so after I turn 16.
I don't want my party to be too casual either because I want it to be bigger than what I've done in the past (ex: movies, bowling, board games, skating, etc.) with my friends for previous birthdays.
I need to find the perfect balance, and I'm running out of time...any suggestions?
What should I do for my Sweet 16?
maybe go to a dinner but has a salon were u can dance n stuff. n get a dj n have songs playin n have it kinda like a club only less wild n no alchaholic drinks:D hope this helps

Warning of Winter by: Mary Ursula Bethell
Give ones,now red roses;
Summer-long you told us,
Urgently unfolding,death-sweet,life red,
Tidings of love. All's said,Give ones.
Summer-long you placarded
Leaf shades with heart-red
Symbols,Who knew not love at first knows now,
Who had forgot has now remembered,
Let it be,let be, lance-lilies,
Alert,pied-spottedtilting
Poised anthers,flaming,have done flaming flerce,
Hard hearts were pierced long since, and stricken
Give to the blast your thorn-crowns
Roses;and now be torn down
All you ardent lilies, your high-holden crests.
Havocked and cast to rest on the claiming ground.
Alas,alas to darkness
Descends the flowered pathway,
To solitary places deserts,utter night,
To issue in what hidden down of light hereafter?
But one,in dead of winter,
Divine Agape,kindles
Morning suns,new moons,lights starry trophies;
Rags tothe waste;Rejoice, and using forth roses,
To the ice-fields;Let here spring thick bright lilies.
What do you understand about Mary Ursula Bethell's Warning of Winter?

What should I do for my sweet 16?
I want my sweet 16 to be special, just like everyone else. I'm not one of those spoiled brats who gets every single thing they want... the problem is my birthday is in December and I can't think of anything cool to do thats in the winter... any ideas?
What should I do for my sweet 16?
make a christmas party, if your jewsih, sorry if tht doesnt really help.. how about a winter in wonderland you can have the theme all white and u get to wear whatever you want, but everyone else is in white!
Reply:Go Skiing
Reply:ice skating? invite 50+ people ( pay for themselves) and tell tem to bring their friends.

I remember when I turned 16 for the third time in my second life, it was a mezmorizing enchanting time of my life. Kind of like when they canceled Cosby. Not the first Cosby show, that crappy one that aired on CBS with that annoying white lady. Since we are going with this Cosby theme, I would get some Jello and a kiddie pool. Find all your neighbors friends and drown them in the jello. I know what I am talking about. Chalk it up as an accident and have some pudding pops. Boo Yah. I am Bill Crosby.

you could do like a summer thing and have it at your house, a local church, or a party hall. and have lua stuff. have people wear bathing suits under their clothes.
or do a winter thing. my 8th grade dance was winter themed. get an ice sculpture, have a chocolate fountain, and decorate with christmas lights and lots of white fabrics!
good luck :)

if its a large amount, then have like a winter formal type party at a local hotel, or reception hall. Like it can be an all white events and you juss have a DJ and a cake. Depending on your budget, this would be a success
if its a small amount of people, then have it at your house, make it a sleepover, yea you might think sleepovers are for smaller children, but you have to make it fun, and if your house has a fireplace, then make smores, always a crowd pleaser. lol
hope i helped
Reply:Hey, I'm having my sweet 16 this year too! :) (and I'm not spoiled either!)
I think it would be totally cool to have it at a pretty restaurant like... near a golf course or the water (beautiful in winter!)
Do some sort of a winter wonderland theme... once again, so magical!
If you're a girl (just assuming), I would even wear a beautiful white dress, or make your guests wear white and you can wear a bold color to really stand out.
Happy EARLY birthday!
Reply:Maybe a cabin retreat if your family would spring for that kind of thing. That could be cool.

The Kiss"
The evening sun sets, winter breeze brisk,
the light of a full moon, a distant white disc.
Cheeks red from cold winds, your hair blows free,
footsteps traverse lightly, towards comfort of you and me.
Warmth of home welcomes you, two smiles now appear,
our eyes lock in excitement, wiping out all your fears.
Your beauty overwhelms me, by the fire we now lay,
nestled into each other's arms, where we wish to stay.
The sweet touch of your lips against my chest I feel,
I gently kiss your forehead, a kiss of Love to seal.
Our souls and spirit as we drift away....... "The Kiss"

How do i freeze fresh sweet corn??
i bought some fresh sweet corn from the local farmers market and would like to freeze some on the cob for winter?
How do i freeze fresh sweet corn??
Clean it thoroughly, chop the ends off and put them in those double freezer bags. The cheap ones will cause freezer burn.
Reply:You will need to blanch it first, then stick in a sink of ice water then put it in the bags.
Reply:We grow our own corn and we put in in ziplock bags and then put in in the freezer. It works really good. JUst let it thaw for a few minutes before you boil it.
Reply:blanch it in boiling water for 30 seconds then let cool and then freeze in bags after dry
Reply:I'm not sure but go to www.allrecipes.com, www.hgtv.com, www.foodnetwork.com, www.marthastwert.com, or some of those other home and garden websites. I would assume that you would make sure that they are clean and put them in a container with water and freeze all of it. Or you can cut it off the cob and use it as whole kernel corn.

You could have a nice indoor beach theme. They are fun..lots of color..and brightness....You could find a place with a pool and enjoy the day with your friends that way. A nice break from the winter. You all can go and tan and enjoy being young.

Ideas for my sweet sixteen birthday party?
My birthday is in May and yes I know its January but this is my 16. this is my big year and I'm not hispac or jewish so I thought a big sweet 16 would be good to have. I'm planning on having like a BIG major party. I want it to be memorable, and I want everyone to remember it as the funnest party they've been to. The guest list is about 40 or more. I'm going to do it in my backyard and its pretty huge. my mom agreed to pay for a DJ, take out our ping pong table for them to play, and order pizzas and drinks. but is that too cheesy? she wouldn't let me rent a hotel or anything. so this is all I can do. my favorite colors are red black white and gray some theme needs to be 2 of those colors and my mom said black and white is for winter, white and red valentines day.and I dunno I'm in spring. I hate pink. I need help with a theme and any other good fun games and things to do at my party besides ping pong?
Ideas for my sweet sixteen birthday party?
I wouldn't worry about colors - or just use the ones your high school uses. How about a giant slip-n-slide?

This is going to sound harsh, but you need to remind yourself what this is: A PARTY. What will you be offering your guests? So far, you've only settled on forcing them to wear a specific color. I don't know how your friends will react, but it doesn't sound like much fun to me. (Your very closest friends might tell you it sounds like fun, but what about all the other people?) Be careful, or your party will turn out to be memorable, but for all the wrong reasons.
You need a THEME more than you need colors. Unless you plan to just sit around and look at each other.
Are you and your friends into sports? The Olympics are this summer, so you could have an "Olympic Games" theme. Renaissance Fair? Casino Day?
Think about what would be fun to do, and the colors will define themselves.
Reply:Well id say do Truth or Dare :P and make it mature ok...like kissing the ugliest person u know LOL.
And choose maybe Red and Dark Blue for ur colors. that wud look AWESOME.
And for other games well maybe do some obsticle courses or something..with partners like boy + girl :D
Reply:all you really need for a good party is good food, good music, and at least 20 people when people go to a party they really don't think about the theme are the colors.
Where is it being held and can I come?
Reply:If you're looking for ideas on invites and decor, maybe you should pick up a bridal magazine. They have lots of good ideas about how to do budget (and 'splurge') invitations and decor.
I like the pizza and drinks...I mean, you're only 16, I wouldn't do an all out fine dining experience.
You can have plenty of fun without renting a hotel room, if you have a backyard party it will be fun for everyone (plus, some of your friends might have trouble getting permission from their parents if it's at a hotel).
To personalize your party, why not make/serve a drink named after yourself - you can do a smoothie, punch, tea, virgin margarita (it's more fun that pop).
You can buy some cupcakes instead of a cake (a little more creative).
You don't have to limit yourself to balloons and streamers, you can decorate the house with flowers and garland bought from a craft store. You can buy some really cute patio string lanterns.
You can set up some other games like mini golf, croquet or bocce ball (they sound cheesy, but it's fun, especially for people who aren't keen on dancing all night).
I disagree with your mother that black and white is for winter. Black, white and red would be so easy to buy. You wouldn't have any trouble finding decor in those colors.
I'm a big fan of brown and blue (robin's egg blue). Again, check out bridal magazines for more color combos. Or you could do black and blue. Maybe before choosing your colors, you should go to a party supplies shop and see what you like.
Reply:This is the etiquette category...oh well..
Ping pong? And you're talking about having the most fun party? Well...I don't agree. Actually, depends on your guests. What do they like to do? Dance? Are they mostly females?
This is a tough one. I would say dancing and a lot of good food for one. But then it won't be, "the most memorable."
To have the most memorable, of course, you would need a couple celebrities and the MTV film crew..

OK so my sweet 16 is in feb. to be exact feb.22 and I want to have the best party ever.?
So my birthday is in the winter and I really don't have that big of a house to host the party inside. This is one of my biggest days ever because this party willbe my first real BIG party, so I need ideas to keep the party fun, like what kind of theme would I do and what should I do... yea SWEET 16 is a theme, but I just need help!
OK so my sweet 16 is in feb. to be exact feb.22 and I want to have the best party ever.?
My daughter's Sweet Sixteen was 2 years ago - we rented our town hall building, decorated with crepe paper and balloons in her favorite colors. We got small paper plates in her favorite colors and used those and splastic silverware to use for snacks. I also surprised her with napkins that were personalized for her with name and Sweet Sixteen on them! The Town Hall allowed us to use the basketball area and set a volleyball net up. We had a DJ come in for a few hours and basically set up chips, pretzels and a cake with tons of cupcakes around it. We set up a box for cards and a table for presents. One of the Balloons was huge and had a pen attached to it for her friends to all sign. Basically it ended up to be a like a school dance and party night with over 400 people stopping in to say Happy Birthday! She had a really good time - got tons of presents and cards and they all talk about it still! Granted we are a small town but everyone had a great time! This age is more about socializing with friends and by just having an open area for people to be was what worked for her Sweet Sixteen!
Happy Birthday!
Reply:All really depends on what your budget is and what you like/interests are.
The MTV show - my sweet sixteen is a great place to pick ideas.
You could always rent a tent for your yard, nothing fancy with walls, and make the theme Winter Wonderland or a Ski party, where people get to where there cutest winter outfits.
So all in all - we need more info on you and your budget before we can help.
Reply:You could do an opposite party (to the season). Have a Hawaiian Luau. You can get lais, and party favors on the internet really cheap. Decorate your house with various Hawaiian items, have everyone wear Hawaiian shirts, maybe even grass skirts. Have Hawaiian Punch, and buffet with various foods from the region. It will turn into a normal teen party anyway eventually because that is who will be attending... but at least might give you a break from the "cold" season, if you live in a northern reagion...Have fun.
Reply:isnt that close to marti graw (SP) if it is you could use that as a theam in LA oand we both know in late feb down there it could be 80 outside then it could be 50 as well just a few ideas

How do I freeze fresh sweet corn?
I live in the midwest and before long we will be able to get fresh sweet corn from the markets. I have made creamed corn by just cutting off the top of the kernels and then scrapping the cob. I would like detailed instructions on how to prepare it for freezing as just regular cut corn. My mom would do this in the summer and freeze it in baggies for the winter, it was heavenly. It was also rather complicated - she had to cook the ears for a time, cool them and then cut it off the cob and do something with ice water???? Wish I had paid more attention :( Anyone know how to do this? Please be detailed. Thanks!
How do I freeze fresh sweet corn?
How to Freeze Corn on the Cob
What You Need:
14 cups fresh corn on the cob, approximately 24-30 ears of corn
3/4 cup sugar
1/8 cup salt
7 cups water
Preparation for Freezing Corn:
Peel back the husk removing it from the corn cob.
Break or cut off any excess corn stalk.
Remove the thin silk that runs along the kernels of the corn. Remove excess silk with a vegetable brush or with a damp paper towel.
Remove kernels by standing the ear of corn upright on a cutting board or inside a pan that can be used to catch the corn as it is cut off. Using a sharp utility or chef's knife, cut the kernels straight down along the corn cob to free numerous rows of kernels at the same time.
Place 14 cups of prepared corn into a large stock pot. Add sugar and salt.
Slowly pour in 7 cups of water. Adjust amount of water to just cover corn. Stir.
Bring corn mixture to a boil. Boil 1-5 minutes to desired tenderness.
Allow corn to cool. Spreading corn onto a large cookie sheet will cool the corn quicker.
Scoop corn into plastic freezer bags, include a small amount of the remaining water mixture in each bag. Flatten corn filled bag and place in freezer.
Reply:not real sure you need to go through all that but you may want to check your local extension office's website. we have land grant universities for a reason
Reply:This is how I do mine. I take the corn and shuck it and wash it real good of coarse. Then I take a large cookie sheet, and I cut the corn off the cob until I get enough for a very large skillet. Then I add a little sugar, to taste, some salt and pepper and a stick of butter and about 1/2 cup water. I cook it on the stove until the water and butter is absorbed. I only cook it about 15 to 20 minutes. Then I pour it out on another large pan and let it cool. Then I put it in ziploc freezer bags or in freezer containers.
If you do corn still on the cob. I clean it and boil it for about 5 to 10 minutes and then I put the ears in a sink with lots of ice to chill it really fast. Then lay the ears of corn out on a towel to dry and them put them in freezer bags.
Reply:I grew up in SW Minnesota, this is the recipe you want!
9 cups raw cut corn
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups water
Salt to taste
Bring to a boil then boil 5 minutes. Cool and freeze in whatever size containers you prefer.
ENJOY!
Reply:ok, in all honesty i'm lazy...i freeze the whole ear of corn as is in large baggies, and it's all good when i go to boil or grill it during the winter. i don't even thaw. i too live in midwest and like to have the fresh year round.
Reply:for frozen corn on the cob...shuck and dehair corn...get lg pot of water to boiling....add at least a half cup of sugar...fill your sink halway with cold water and throw in all the icecubes you have...when water is in full boil, put corn cobs in but dont overcrowd.......now, really important don't boil them longer than 3 min, if you do your corn cobs will thaw out later a little mushy.....fish them out, put directly into ice water for about 5 min. dry completely before putting in ziploc freezer bags and suck out as much air as possible before putting in freezer...make sure corn is completely cooled before bagging.
i tried freezing corn for years before finding this particular method and it's awesome. the corn can be thrown into the pot completely frozen and boiled and its just like fresh

LADIES, Do you enjoy Winter Comfort, a Poem do you feel??
"The Kiss"
"The Kiss"

The Difference Between Yams And Sweet Potatoes?
I went to the zoo yesterday. I packed my backpack full of green bananas and coconut jelly beans, and made a mad dash for the gates. When I got there, I asked the zoo keeper, “what’s the difference between yams and sweet potatoes?” He answered, “one makes you psychologically depressed, the other makes you wish for winter all year long.” Unsatisfied, I headed to the polar bear exhibit where I ran into the local rabbi, asking him the same question. He responded, “atmosphere, radiation, and the ability to render vague perception.” “What knowledge!” I thought to myself, what an interesting way to reply.
Before I left I gave the bananas to the apes and orangutans and whispered “make sure you watch jeopardy tomorrow.” Confounded—filled with voracity, “what about the jelly beans?” they replied.
The Difference Between Yams And Sweet Potatoes?
Yams are a little redder in color, sweet potatoes a little yellower. I'm still not sure of the difference in taste, but I would say that yams are usually a bit sweeter.
Very cute story. Does the answerer get the coconut jelly beans?
Reply:there is no difference...just different names.
just like we call it "cell phone" and british call it "mobile phone" etc etc

Themes and a dress for my sweet 16?
I'm having my sweet sixteen in a few months and I'm not really sure what kind of theme or dress I want to have.
I want my dress to be red, and amazingly beautiful. I'm not really sure if I want it to be a big princess dress, but I don't really want a short dress or a babydoll dress either.
I have no idea what theme to pick. I don't want to do anything too weird. I want somthing really pretty, like a winter wonder land. (The problem with that is my party isn't in winter :\)
Themes and a dress for my sweet 16?
Winter could be recreated in other seasons!
Heres some other themes:
Hollywood Theme-Pictures of celebrities all over, have a red carpet, awards(when your doing your 16 candles).
All around the world-Pick your favorite places all around the world. Ex-Rome, Paris, New York.. and decorate different areas with this theme.
Pretty in Pink-Everything PINK!
SWEET sixteen- CandyLand-Candy, everywhere! Candy straws, chocolate fountain..
Masquerade Party-Everyone wears gorgeous, old fashion dresses and a mask.
Vegas Theme-Rent mini casino games. Sign that says welcome to vegas.
A Luau
Retro Theme-Different time periods. Ex.The 60's, 70's, 80's.
If you like any of these, make a new topic about the one you like and you'll get lots of ideas, things to do and stuff.
HAVEFUN!
:)
Reply:Hey my sister had a sweet sixteen this passed summer and she was having a hard time picking a theme and her dress.
Well since you want it to be pretty or maybe in a princess dress, maybe a maskarade party will work. You know the big princess dresses and masks? That would be a nice idea.
Another idea is to have like an actual princess and prince party. All the girls wear princess dresses and tiara's adn the guys wear like tux's or something and crowns.
Well that's only me trying to help, you don't need to actually take my advice but bye!
Reply:My daughter just turned 16 in November and we had a Red Carpet/Hollywood Themed Party. We had everyone that attended wear black and white because she wasnt sure what her dress would look like or what color so this way, no matter what color she had, no one else did. We even bought little awards and had voting ballots and gave out trophy's. The kids really had a great time with that and at the party. I think it was a nice way to include the boys too without it being so "girly".
I wish you luck on your planning and hope you have a happy birthday.
Reply:The Great Gatsby.....read it and you will understand.
Reply:Okay, well, consider yourself lucky, I didn't have a big sweet 16 bash, but I hope to for my daughter.
I think that something in red would be very beautiful and very classy... maybe you could try a Masquerade theme, have the guest dress in ballgowns and tux's (or Suits) and use masks. Or just do a high glamour party where you can where ANY red dress... like you are all socialites like paris hilton or something. Have a good time... and here is a link for more ideas... I like the Alice in Wonderland or the Vegas one myself.

Low Budget Boy Girl Sweet 16 Ideas?
My girlfriend is having a sweet 16 party in February and she needs a theme. Its in the middle of winter so outside will not work. We really don't want to spend over $200. Her interests are music, drama and movies. She wants guys there too.
Low Budget Boy Girl Sweet 16 Ideas?
since it is going to be winter - how about a summer/tropical/beach theme. also go to the dollar store - she can find a theme there and cheap. Plus guys will go anywhere girls will be

Freezing oninons for the winter...?
I love sweet Vidalia onions and want to buy a bucnch and freeze them so I can enjoy them all winter long...do I just cut and freeze...do they need to be blanched? Thanks...
Freezing oninons for the winter...?
NO, NO DO NOT FREEZE THEM!!! THE BEST WAY TO KEEP SWEET ONIONS (WE STORE WALLA WALLA'S HERE IN OREGON) IS TO DO THIS.......
DROP AN INDIVIDUAL ONION INSIDE OF A PAIR OF NYLON PANTYHOSE OR INDIVIDUAL STOCKINGS. TIE THAT ONE OFF AND DROP ANOTHER IN AND REPEAT THIS PROCESS UNTIL THE HOSE IS FILLED.
WE HANG OUR INSIDE THE GARAGE (DARK %26amp; COOL) IF YOU LIVE IN A REAL HOT CLIMATE PUT THEM INSIDE OF A CLOSET. THEN JUST CUT AN ONION OFF W/ SCISSORS EACH TIME YOU NEED ONE. THE OTHERS WILL REMAIN DORMANT FOR AT LEAST 3-4 MONTHS. WE COULDN'T BELIEVE HOW GREAT THEY WERE IN JANUARY....
Reply:humm...my mom didn't freeze them...But she would dry them.
Reply:You don't need to blanch them. You just chop or slice and freeze. The absolute best way is with a food saver that sucks out all the air to prevent freezer burn. Especially since you will be storing for the year.
Reply:What is wrong with dry storing them?
Reply:No they do not need to be blanched. However, they will not be crisp when they thaw. Will be usefuk for cooking though. You also freezer green peppers and celery wihoutt blaching. All three of these foods ahve a large amout of water in them. If you blanch you lose the flavor.
Reply:Freeze onions all the time. They do not have to be blanched. I just dice them up and put them in freezer bags. The snack size is a nice size and will hold about 1/2 cup. Just right for most recipes.
I sure have saved a lot of money on onions since I started doing this. The only thing is you cannot use them in recipes that call for fresh onion.
Reply:If you like cooking with fresh onions, but frequently toss an unused portion, try freezing it! The following method works for fully mature onions:
1. Wash, peel and chop raw, fully mature onions into about 1/2" pieces. There is no need to blanch onions.
2. Bag and freeze in freezer bags for best quality and odor protection. Package -- flat -- in freezer bags (see picture) to hasten freezing and make it easier to break off sections as needed. Express out the air and place bags on cookie sheets or metal pans until onions are frozen. Then, restack bags to take up less room.
3. Use in cooked products, such as soups and stews, ground meat mixtures, casseroles, etc. For most dishes, frozen onions may be used with little or no thawing. (Will keep 3-6 months.)

Where can I get seeds to grow the Blackie Sweet Potato that will bloom?
In the summer of 2005 I bought a Blackie Sweet Potato in a 4 " pot and found out that as it matured, it bloomed beautiful morning glory looking blooms in a beautiful lilac. I tried to winter over some pieces last winter but they didn't make it. In the summer of 2006 I noticed that I had some Blackie plants coming up "volunteer" so I knew that those blooms must have produced seed. I have one nice plant that I could try to winter over again but I would like to find a place where I could get the seed to plant to make sure that I have Blackies that bloom next year. They are beautiful.
Where can I get seeds to grow the Blackie Sweet Potato that will bloom?
Sweet potato vines actually reproduce via potatoes (rhizomes). If you did not dig up your vine in 2005, then that potato stayed in the ground, overwintered and produced a new vine in 2006. I own a garden center in Arkansas and have several customers every year who dig up their potatoes and store them in a cool, dry place over the winter and then replant them in the spring after the threat of frost has passed. Try digging around after yours dies this year and see if you can find your rhizome(potato) and store it over the winter in your garage or laundry room. GOOD LUCK!
Reply:http://www.denverplants.com/annual/html/...
They are annuals that everyone propagates around here...they also come in the wonderful hot lime green....If nothing else, put cuttings in water and watch them take off for the winter indoors...if forsome reason, you don't have any, please let me know as they in four inch pots are in nurseries here year around.....good luck....i love them too and they trail from a basket or cover the ground...

rent a hall, check your local firehouse.
Reply:Littletricky is right. Many communities rent out an area to host a party, like a community center, city hall, or firehall, which doesn't cost a lot. Then friends and family can make dishes for your birthday party.
Reply:Some of these people want you to have a Barney bday %26amp; at least one thinks you should go to the other extreme, with alc, drugs, %26amp; strippers. Do something that makes a difference in your life. Get your friends to help you volunteer at a homeless shelter, or donate what you get to the animal shelter. Go read to the elderly, you`ll feel great about it, %26amp; could lead to great things for you.
Reply:Get you a good boyfriend and experiment a little!
Reply:First, go to Church.. Praise and beg the Almighy to give a sound health and mind....
Before 10 AM go to an orphonage and donate whatever you have and serve them a day ....

Reply:Go to the closest mountain and go sledding there. U can usally rent tubs and ppl can bring money. Then have a friend or ur mom make a cake and u can come back to ur house and eat. Invite 10 or less of ur closest friends
Reply:just have a little party
Reply:You could go to ice skating rink in the local mall and spend the day there with your friends. I have no idea how much it will cost. You could have hot chocolate or apple cider to go with your cake, or maybe even make cup cakes with ice skates on top of them. If you had enough room in your house I would say have a sleep over. You could buy a bunch of cheap make-up, nail polish and hair care products and have your friends bring there own and give eachother make overs then go to the movies, out to dinner or just hang out at the mall. If you have just a few close friends you could do that and then go out for a night on the town. Good Luck and happy birthday.
Reply:why don't you have a skiing party and skiing is not that much money you can sever hot coco and other appetizer

Got a new poem, what do you think? "Winter Blues"?
On Winter's night,
I laid there
alone
cuddled in my sheets,
my head, softly against the pillow,
watching snowflakes fall,
as winter's chill
slowly knocks at my window.
My mind drifted off
and I dreamed sweet dreams,
dreams thought to be unclear,
but now clearer than ever before,
and suddenly, I understood
life was not meant for being sad.
Suddenly realizing what hit me,
I rose from the comfort of my bed,
drying tears from my eyes,
walking towards my bedroom window.
And as I looked up,
there it was,
a star in the sky,
and as beautiful as it was,
I then realized
that my days would shine brighter
if only I'd learn to smile.
Got a new poem, what do you think? "Winter Blues"?
i think its prety good and the poem definatly advanced going towards the end. no hidden messege which is fun to find but still good all the same. very simple keep writing :) cant wait to see some more of your work. :)
Reply:Very good. True.
Try it with all verbs in the present tense.
This will make it stronger.
Reply:its very light, no intense emotional metaphors.
its a sweet poem but it doesn't really have a purpose.
and the diction could have been better.
Reply:Pretty good.. (:

"The Kiss"

My Sweet 16...?
I need some idea's for a Sweet 16 party. Family is really important to me so, I would like to try, doing something with my family to celebrate, but then go have a party with my friends too. It will be in the Winter, so anything outside I probably wont be able to do. Any idea's would be awesome. Thanks!
My Sweet 16...?
It really depends on your budget. What I did for my sweet 16 was a little more lavish. My parents rented a limo and took me and 6 of my friends out to a fancy restaurant her family owns, so we got to spend time with them as well. I say have a nice dinner at home with your family, ask them to cook your favorite meal and ask everyone to bring a picture or a story typed out for you and together you can make a scrapbook commemorating the good times as a special present. With your friends, just have some fun! Have an indoor luau despite the winter. Try a toga party where you all have to make your own toga together beforehand. Best of luck and I hope it's great! :)

Yearling filly not losing her winter coat?
Okay, it's mid-May in NE Pennsylvania and while I admit the weather's been unseasonably cool, my yearling Morgan cross filly STILL has most of her winter coat. An acquaintance of mine who raises horses thinks it may be nutrition-related since she is wormed on a regular basis. She just turned a year, weighs 400 lbs. and stands 13H so I don't think she's THAT malnutritioned (is that even a word?), but is there something that may be missing from her diet of sweet and hay? Thanks! I was also the one that asked the question recently about lixotinic - maybe this is why my vet suggested it?
Yearling filly not losing her winter coat?
I live in Oregon but it has been cold here! I have year old filly who just would not shed and she was even kept in doors and let out during the day. This happens a lot in Southern Oregon because our soil lacks some important mineral. Every spring I go to our local feed store and get Selenium it helps the shedding process along. Like I said I know our area is short in it so it is a easy fix. I give the supplement to all my horse. Easy fix with out getting the Vet involved just make sure you don't give to much. You will see a difference in about a week. Think of it like human hair. Your hair will tell your story, if you are stressed out your hair shows it, you smoke your hair shows it, you are not getting enough Vitamins your hair shows it. Horses are the same their fur coat tells the story. If it is not shiny and health looking I bet it is a nutrition related..........
Reply:Yearlings typically hang on to their first winter's coat for a while for some silly reason, or at least mine have when out in pasture. Everybody else sheds and there they are with the "fuzzys".
Start with a shedding blade then follow it with a pumice stone. This year's been really bizzare weather wise anyway!
Best of luck.
Reply:In addition to a good brushing everyday, feed her food that's specifically to help aid a coat. Horses' bodies control when they lose their coat, so if she feels like it'll get cold again (has there been temperature fluxuations?) she'll keep the coat until she's used to the weather changes.
Hope i could help!
Reply:Young horses the age of your filly vary widely in when they lose their winter coats. Grooming might really help slick her out, but I'd stay away from sweet feed and go with rolled oats. They are safer for young horses. Be sure and have her teeth checked and also keep her wormed regularly. She'll probably lose her winter coat when Mother Nature tells her to.
Reply:something I find that helps is to give them a good work out every day and get them to sweating. something about good sweats in the spring seems to make that hair turn loose. I know she is a yearling but 30 minutes of ground work in the round pen really does wonders along with your usual brushings and shedding aids.
Reply:I agree yearlings seem to hang on to fuzzies. I would let nature takes it's course, it may not be warm enough for her yet. I think they shed when they are warm enough. Her body is protecting her. I would leave her. I leave mine. Just my 2 cents...... But if you really feel that something is wrong, call your vet %26amp; just ask. Hope this helps!
Reply:I wouldn't be so quick to shed her out. Hold off another two weeks and see if she doesn't start blowing her coat on her own.Mother Nature is wonderful at taking good care of the babies and she is a baby. A cold snap could come and she'll be better off with her fuzzies than without.
Shining good health will be yours soon. I adore your concern but give her some more time please.
Reply:use a shedding blade. and if that doesn't work, talk to the vet.
Reply:give her a good brushing everyday and after two weeks come back on this thing if she hasn't lost her coat its probably loose just needs a hand to come off don't worry it'll work
Reply:Try using a shedding blade but if that doesn't work you can talk to a vet about shaving her down.
Reply:Clip her and let her grow out a new coat for summer. That should help a lot, especially if she starts overheating due to still having her coat should it get hot soon. :)
Reply:My yearling Arab still has some coat on his back, the rest looks pretty and its been hotter than heck here. Just keep brushing her, it has to off sometime...I'm ready to pull out the clippers LOL
Reply:i heard if you put corn oil in there feed than that helps there coat. Hope i helped
Reply:This year the weather has been really odd in northern North Dakota too. My gelding held on to his winter coat for the longest time. We would get a few nice days and he would start shedding, then a bunch of cold and he looked like a winter horse all over again. What I found worked the best for him when he just started to shed was the shedding blade for sure (that has to be one of the greatest inventions ever!!) and a lot of brushing. I did try the pumice stone but I was nowhere near as pleased with it as I have been with regular use of the shedding blade and brushes. As long as you are certain that the long-term forecast looks to finally be warming up, go ahead and try the shedding blade.
Hope this helps!!

Well my horses still have their winter coats, but I brush them constantly with a shedding tool. Have you tried that? Also, I have noticed that younger horses and older horses tend to keep their coats longer. My friends and I have agreed it is probably because they can't contain their heat very well because in young and old horses they tend to loose and gain weight very quickly. Hope this helps!
Reply:your filly will lose her winter coat when she is ready! in the wild they wouldn't have people grooming them or anything like that. when she's ready she will start rubbing on everything, trees, fence post, exc. then you can groom her to help her shed, till then she needs it.

Trying to lose a few winter pounds..how does this sound?
Now that it's Spring, I need to lose some of my winter weight and wanted to know if this eating plan sounds good. It's an example of 1-2 days but I plan to eat similar everyday.
Breakfast:
Omelet with peppers and onions OR Kashi natural oatmeal
Snack: Apple or large handful of nuts
Lunch: Whole wheat pasta salad with loads of raw veggies tossed in
Snack: Handful of nuts OR a 2 servings of low fat cheese
Dinner: Grilled marinated veggies OR tofu and broccoli in homemade asian brown sauce OR Boca burger (no bun) with baked sweet potato fries
Trying to lose a few winter pounds..how does this sound?
Sounds good! It's a good mix of protein, good carbs, good fats, fiber, etc. Just remember portion control and make sure you're active. You don't need to go for a 3 mile walk or a 30 minute lifting session, getting the yard looking good for spring counts as activity too. Good luck!
Reply:It sounds like the best diet to me, except for two things that you are forgetting:
Drink plenty of water everyday: the easiest way to do that is to have water (2glasses)with every meal that you are going to have. And the most important thing is to get active. You don't have to join a gym, make sure you get at least 30minute-walk everyday. It is starting to get warm out there, you should be able to enjoy your walk. Good luck.
Reply:This sounds pretty good!
Just make sure you're taking in ENOUGH calories so that your body will burn fat more efficiently. Do a google search for how to calculate your basal metabolic rate (or BMR) to get a sense of how many calories your body burns just by existing, and then decrease that number by 10%, then another 10%, etc. until you see weight loss.
Good luck with your new plan!
Reply:that diet sounds good and it might work for you, personally I lost 25 lbs by doing the atkins diet, lots of protein, veggies and fruits, no carbs, I did it in 2 months.....good luck, oh and be consistent and try a good workout with the diet
Reply:I'm thoroughly impressed. Now add a 30-45 minute brisk walk every evening and it should start falling off in no time.

It's awesome.
Reply:Sounds good, but you gotta work out too to lose weight. Because once you stop eating that way, then you gain it all back.

and add some work out to ur diet or walk

Reply:This looks very good to eat, I mean healthy! It's enough protein, which you need to repair muscle. It's enough carb which you need for energy. Drink more fluids. But let me step back up a second.
Everyone who wants to lose weight seems to start the wrong way, by dieting (coming up with crazy things they'll do, like the Adkin's diet, or the coffee and nut diet, or the South Beach diet). Diets do not work. (I am using "diet" to mean a strict regimen of consumption of a prescribed set of foods which you did not design.) Hey, it's your body! Why would you trust other people to tell you what to eat!
Start with this idea: your body is a system. It expends calories and takes in calories. When the former rate is greater than the latter rate for more than 5 days, you will notice a difference in your weight (assuming certain other things constant, such as muscle mass). You can therefore realize great changes in your weight by expending when you would normally be consuming.
Do this: when you feel hungry, stand up and stretch. Better, lift weights! Don't be afraid! Do it in the comfort of your home, all alone if need be. Because the muscle mass you gain will require more calories to keep it at resting condition. It will be easier to lose weight overall despite muscle weighing more. AND you'll be amazed at how you feel and the tone of your muscles. If you want to lose a lot of weight, develop the areas where you have most unused muscle. I have a preference for squats. This is not spot reduction (which is impossible, but weirdly, spot increasing IS possible - if you have a large middle, wait a while before doing situps, which just makes those muscles larger). Working the large muscles, and working them hard! It's like telling parts of your body to start pulling their own weight!
Good luck.

Sweet sixteen party?
My birthday is coming up (January 20th) and i really want to have a sweet sixteen. I have already made a guest list of about 30 people...i'm having trouble coming up with party ideas because...
a) its the winter. not much to do.
b) budget. let's just say...nothing over $100
c) space. i'd like to have the party at home, but i don't have much room...
d) i want to have like a semi-formal dinner thing, but again, there isn't much space in my house..
any ideas? please hurry! thank you!!!
Sweet sixteen party?
Have a cocktail party with non-alcoholic beverages. You can make hors d'œuvres look pretty fancy for not much money. A shrimp ring, get a baguette and slice it into rounds spread with cream cheese (I use herb %26amp; garlic) and add cucumber slices marinated in Italian or Greek dressing. There are a lot of great 'mocktail' recipes online and a lot of cool recipes for cheap hors d'œuvres. Make some mixed CD's of your fav songs and turn your house into an exclusive club for the night. Have someone at the door to check invites and give people a stamp on their hand. If you want to have people in different areas make one section the "V.I.P. room". If you want a pretty in pink theme add it to the invites and have a t.v. in your house playing the movie. If it is just the colour pink you want then add it to everything! Pink drinks and decorations and have someone at the door that not only checks if your guests are wearing pink but has some accesories to lend (or give) them if they are not wearing anything pink.
Reply:Have it in a theatre, without the chairs!
With coctails and music and maybe a band!
And have pink decorations and wear a pink dress with pink bouquets around the hall!
Reply:beach party fake palm trees bikinis cannot go wrong
Reply:Clear the living room and dinning room of furniture..... except the chairs against the walls and the same with dinning room table....
Have pizza cut into small pieces, finger sandwiches, punch, veggie tray, meat cheese and crackers tray. two or three kinds or brownies and other bars... all small.....less mess.....less waste..... and it looks fancier when it is small.
Have friends bring favorite music CD's or use your own.. and have a dance.....
Reply:sledding, or outdoor skating. You could have lots of things like hot chocolate etc. Plus you get to be outside. No chance of running out of space

Winter tires or all season tires for my focus svt? which would be the better choice for handling?
i need to switch my summer tires to either all winter or all season tires. i like the handling that i get from my eagle f1's, they impress me more all the time. i would like to get the same performance and handling as the summer tires, but i realize that i am probably dreaming. if i could get some sweet handling all season tires, i would stay with them and not switch back. any suggestions, the size i need are 215 45 17's speed rated above h.
Winter tires or all season tires for my focus svt? which would be the better choice for handling?
Your SVT probably came with Continental Sport Contacts originally in a 215/45ZR17 87Y - same summer tires I have and similar to your current Eagle's in terms of performance. As you probably know they can not be used in snow or ice. They don't even like cold dry pavement very much.
On my Sentra SE-R Spec V I still have the original Conti's for use from April to October, a set of P195/60R15 87Q Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50's for November through March and a set of Kuhmo Ecsta V700's in 225/45R17 91W for track days and autocross - everything on its own wheels. Optimum traction for every condition in which I use the car.
So-called "all-season" or "M+S" rated tires are not designed for serious winter, only "light snow" and they are mostly hopeless on ice. The reason is their rubber compounds lose elasticity at cold temperatures, just like your Eagle F1's but at somewhat lower temps.
Probably the best high-performance all-season out there in my experience (and I have tried almost all of them) is the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position. On dry pavement and in the rain it gives up little to the better summer-only tires and is better than any other high-performance all-season tire in snow, but it is still an all-season and not a winter tire. The other option would be the Continental Extreme Contact which is a good snow performer for a UHP all-season and much cheaper than the Bridgestone but doesn't wear very well, nor does it handle or grip as nicely.
My suggestion would be to not comprimise and get one tire that does a lot of things sort of well. Keep your summer only tires that give you the best possible performance in warm conditions and get a set of dedicated winter-only tires on their own wheels to get maximum performance when the weather is at its worst. Tires are the #1 piece of safety equipment on the car after all.
Narrower is better in snow and ice so I would suggest a -1 sizing of P205/50R16 87. The Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50 would be the best snow and ice tire in this size but tend to be squirmy when pushed hard and were recently discontinued. Still plenty of supply though and this means you can get some good deals on them. The other best option is the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25 which won't be quite as good in snow and ice (no multicell compound) as the WS-50 but has a higher speed rating and will handle better when there is no snow - closer to an all-season tire that way. The Michelin X-Ice would be the next best choice and falls somewhere in between the WS-50 and LM-25 in performance and price.
Reply:Goodyear Fortera Triple treads are great handling tires and almost as good in the snow and ice as dedicated snow tires. They ain't cheap, but the best never is.
Reply:Go with koma....
Reply:get all season tires, unless you live in an area that gets tons of snow and ice

Things to do in NYC, winter/spring, teens birthday?
So for my "sweet sixteen" next January 2009, I want to spend the weekend in Manhattan with a few friends and my mom to take us around. The thing is, I don't really know of a lot of things to do in the city, especially in the dead of winter. We'll probably postpone it until the following March or so if the weather isnt great on my birthday weekend. But anyway, what are some fun things to do with like, four teenage girls in the city in the winter or spring?
only thing is:
·no day-trip things, like Statue of Liberty or Empire State Building
·if you can give me good museums, then great, just not
-MoMA
-Natural History
-Madam Tussauds
things that are intresting, fun, and not what everyone knows is in the city.
links and pictures are great too
thanks :)

NYC is great! You should really come and visit it. I suggest you to go to the Rockefeller Center. It is really cool and fun to be in there, you would enjoy the shops, ice skating rink, museums, and the city itself. I also would suggest you to visit Time Square and Broadway Theater. There are awesome areas and places in New York City. You will love it! Enjoy!
Reply:we went to NY for a week.
we had a blast!!!
you should visit Serendipity for dessert :)

there's a book called Lonely Planet (NYC)
it is a really really helpful book for tourists like us because it includes walking tours, etc, and places to eat.
there's also the famous BULL at the financial district :)
you should also try the yummiest Pizza Margherita at 'Lil Frankie in East Village ^,^
http://jotan23.blogspot.com/2008/03/tour...
if you have more time, try walking the stretch of Brooklyn Bridge.
http://jotan23.blogspot.com/2008/03/trav...
this serves as an exercise too.. hihihi
also, do visit Saint Patricks's Cathedral at 5th avenue.
don't miss to go inside.
it's wonderful!!!
we also went to Top of the Rock instead of the Empire State Building to avoid the long line hihihi because we were afraid we won't have enough time to see other parts of NYC :)
for shopping, you may want to visit Century 21, just across the former WTC.
http://jotan23.blogspot.com/2008/03/livi...
you should have lunch/brunch at Cafe lalo!!! or at Sarabeth's :)
we chose Cafe Lalo hihihi because of the ambiance and because it's famous.
To relax, try having a picnic at Central Park.
http://jotan23.blogspot.com/2008/03/labo...
we chose to eat at the top of one huge rock there tp have e good view of the whole central park :)
then, we went to MET (entrance is by donation only, you don't have to give 20 USD)
if you're a techie like my friends, you may want to visit the MAC store. it is now a tourist spot because of its unique architecture :p
DON'T MISS eating at PARADOU!!!
it's a MUST!!!
trust me on this!
you also gotta watch a broadway show! definitely!
there's WICKED and SPAMALOT :)

there's a book called Lonely Planet (NYC)
it is a really really helpful book for tourists like us because it includes walking tours, etc, and places to eat.
there's also the famous BULL at the financial district :)
you should also try the yummiest Pizza Margherita at 'Lil Frankie in East Village ^,^
http://jotan23.blogspot.com/2008/03/tour...
if you have more time, try walking the stretch of Brooklyn Bridge.
http://jotan23.blogspot.com/2008/03/trav...
this serves as an exercise too.. hihihi
also, do visit Saint Patricks's Cathedral at 5th avenue.
don't miss to go inside.
it's wonderful!!!
we also went to Top of the Rock instead of the Empire State Building to avoid the long line hihihi because we were afraid we won't have enough time to see other parts of NYC :)
for shopping, you may want to visit Century 21, just across the former WTC.
http://jotan23.blogspot.com/2008/03/livi...
you should have lunch/brunch at Cafe lalo!!! or at Sarabeth's :)
we chose Cafe Lalo hihihi because of the ambiance and because it's famous.

My new poem "Winter Blue"???
On Winter's night,
I lied there
alone
cuddled in my sheets,
my head, softly against the pillow,
watching snowflakes fall,
as winter's chill
slowly knocks at my window.
My mind drifted off,
and I dreamed sweet dreams,
dreams thought to be unclear,
but now clearer than ever before,
and suddenly, I understood
life was not meant for being sad.
Suddenly realizing what hit me,
I rose from the comfort of my bed,
drying tears from my eyes,
walking towards my bedroom window.
And as I looked up,
there it was,
a star in the sky,
and as beautiful as it was,
I then realized
that my days would shine brighter
if only I'd learn to smile.
My new poem "Winter Blue"???
What a wonderful, positive message you convey in this lovely poem. The only thing I would change is to use "laid" there in place of "I lied there". That it is such a small criticism reflects the fact that your poem is very well written.
Reply:WOW -man i am impressed .

My new poem, "Winter Blue". Your thoughts???
Keep in mind that this poem was not written the way I write most of my poetry. It's a little different, but nonetheless, unique. Enjoy!!!

Question on a decorative sweet potato plant?
Last april, I bought a what I am nearly 100% sure to be a decorative sweet potato plant. It did great throughout the year, so when it became winter, I brought it inside. It struggled at first, but seemed to get along. I cut off some of the longer vines, and put it next to a window, and it seemed to survive. Well, some tiny spiders and looked like mold formed on the surface of the plant. It didn't seem to affect it, and the plant always seemed to have atleast 1-4 green leaves on it, barely surviving I guess.
Well its nearly spring, and its nearly survived all winter, but now all the leaves have fallen off, leaving just the vine. I repotted it in a larger pot and cut the vines down to about 6 inches, but I don't know if it will survive. The roots filled the old pot, and when I cut the vines they had a lot of moisture in them, so I assume it was healthy. I watered it and put it next to a window again. Is there anything else I can do to insure its survival, or will it die?
Question on a decorative sweet potato plant?
Doesn't sound good. The spider mites can weaken a plant so it's immune system can't fight off diseases. The mold was probably a fungal disease. Keep it in a warm spot and see if any buds look like they are developing. If not, toss it and get a new one this spring and when it gets infested, if it gets infested, address the problem. The leaves make the food and when they're gone it's bad.
Reply:It sounds like it may have gotten too much water. Just let it dry out a little and water periodically and in the spring put it back out even if it looks dead. Sometimes these will come back if they have been left in a warm place.

Sweet 16 help...i dk what to do!!?
My sweet 16 is comin up in November and i suddenly started thinking about it. I have no idea what to do and whatever i do decide to do has to be on a cheap budget. Not only does it suck because i have a winter b-day and i dont have much to spend but my boyfriends sweet 16 is only 4 days before mine. I know this may sound...bad on my part but i feel like mine has to be better than his(hes the type to rub it in if hes turns out wayy better). Any ideas for an awesome but cheap sweet 16??
---I think i want about 15 to 20 to come, boys and girls, we have a finished basement and a karoke system
Sweet 16 help...i dk what to do!!?
You could just have a dance party. Veryone na just wear normal clothes so no need to buy a new outfit and dont bother getting your hair done because it will just mess up while your dancing. Either spend your money on a band... or you can just use you ipod if you have one or spend your money on food. Everyone loves dancing and it is a great cheap way to have fun. Just let your boyfriend's rubbing it in crap slide by dont let it bug you.
Hope this helps!
Reply:a simple house party
go to sams and stock up on food and snacks
go to the DOLLAR STORE for party favors, glow stics (they make it fun) decoration, ect. (lil cheap stupid stuff is always the best)
get alot or hawt mixed CDs and put dem on shuffle
turn off the lights...say deuces to the parents...get ur freak on lol
Reply:just have fun!!!!!!!! srry your bf is like that!!!
Reply:First of all try not to put so much pressure on yourself over a party. Life is too short.
I think the best parties are just being in a relaxed atmosphere where you and your guests can just have fun.
Do something like blow up balloons just before the party and have everyone use a different colored marker to make a picture or a birthday message to you. Later you can have a balloon fight with them...pop them or whatever. Have some really great snacks that everyone likes. If you have a karoke system..use it. Everyone would enjoy it I'm sure. You can check out different sites on the internet to make your own decorations. Have a theme for your party.
Before November rolls around I'm sure you come up with some great ideas.
Reply:I HAVE AN AMAZING IDEA!!!!!! U SHOULD PLAY CAPTURE THE FLAG.....BUT WITH PAINT HOW IT WORKS IS U GET TO WATER BASED PAINTS TELL EVERYONE TO WHERE CLOTHES THEY CAN GET PAINT ON AND HAVE EVERYONE GET PAINT ON THERE HANDS THEN WHEN U TAG SOMEONE THEY GET PAINT ON THEM ;)
Reply:get a bunch oof your girlfriend together and think of a theme thats you then decourate your basement in that theme also the whole party has to have music and you might want to set up a little dance area(matellic shiny paper are great for decourations) then at first set up like a mini cocktail party thing with drinks and candy thenn once everyone is in the mood get everyone to the dance area and have a dance off or just anything relaxing then to get the party started get all you guest a popper (they're these tubes that you break in half and conftti and assecories pop out awesome but cheap)and you could do the karoke and you could give the rest of the people sitting around a pile of your pictures and their job is to make you a card or a display of you
