Best white wine to drink in winter?

A Question for wine lovers !... I love sweet white wine and been to many wine tastings, but never got the flavor which i have in mind. Can you please suggest me some best white wines and i stay in Milwaukee WI, so any good places to try??

Best white wine to drink in winter?
Gruner Vetliners from Austria are becoming very popular. I personally prefer the Austrian whites more than German Reisling, but I have a taste for drier wine. A wine I like is Anakena Ona, which is a Chilean equal parts blend of Viognier, Reisling and Chardonnay and costs around $14/bottle store retail. You could try Prosecco, it is an Italian sparkling wine which is sweeter than Champagne. Brio is a good choice at around $11/bottle store retail. Tis the season for bubbles.


If you like sweeter wines, generally look for wines from a warmer climate which usually tend be made with riper grapes, which have a higher sugar content (and alcohol content). A restaurant will usually allow you to sample a wine on their "by the glass" list before you order a glass. You could also try flights. Fleming's Steakhouse is a great restaurant which prides itself on good wine service. You have one in Milwalkee and it is nice place to go for special evenings.


Remember that you may not like one type of wine based on a tasting, but that another winery may do something very different and to your liking. Also try wines from South Africia, Australia, France rather than just our US domestics. The most imporant thing is to continue to taste different wines and soon you will have a collection of favorites.
Reply:If you like sweet and have been around, perhaps you are ready to move up a step. Try some of the German Trockens, very noble wines, a bit more expensive than the auslese or beernauslese, but worth it. You also may want to consider some of the French Sauternes like Barsac, Guiraud, Suduiraut or, if your wallet can stand it, the great D'yquem. These are truly tasting experiences, once you have them, you won't go back. See for yourself.

Reply:Have you tried any of the dessert wines? Muscats, Eiswein, Tokaji, Sauternes, late-harvest Riesling. All lovely to sip while sitting by a fire.

I don't drink different wines in winter really, perhaps a little less rose' and pinot grigio, and a little more chardonnay...
Reply:If you like sweet, get Zeller Schwartkat (Black Cat). Its a German wine. I also like Lexia which is from Australia.
