How would you illustrate these poems?

Love is like the wild rose-briar;

Friendship like the holly-tree.

The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms,

But which will bloom most constantly?

The wild rose-briar is sweet in spring,

Its summer blossoms scent the air;

Yet wait till winter comes again,

And who will call the wild-briar fair?

Then, scorn the silly rose-wreath now,

And deck thee with the holly's sheen,

That, when December blights thy brow,

He still may leave thy garland green.

AND

Happenstance

When you appeared it was as if magnets cleared the air.

I had never seen that smile before or your hair, flying silver.

Someone waving goodbye, she was silver, too.

Of course you didn't see me.

I called softly so you could choose not to answer--then called again.

You turned in the light, your eyes seeking your name.

PLEASE HELP!

I'm terrible at getting the deeper meaning of poetry.

:-(

I'll help you with a subject I'm stronger in if you help me with this.

How would you illustrate these poems?
1st poem:

This poem is explaining the difference between friendship and love. We can first dissect it this way:

Love is like the rose briar

Friendship like holly

Friendship is dark when love blooms

But which will bloom more often?

Love is sweet in spring

Its summer blossoms scent the air

Yet wait till winter comes again

And who will call the love fair?

Then, scorn the silly love affair now

And deck thee with friendships sheen

That, when December blights thy brow

He still may leave thy garland green

To illustrate the first one, I would use both a rose-briar and a holly-tree, each one representing love and then friendship. You could have the change of seasons in your illustration and show how both friendship and love change based on what is described in the poem. The entire meaning of this poem is though, that friendship will always be there and love may come and go.

2nd poem:

The second poem could be illustrated with a silver haired person (whether they be male or female that is up to you). And you could have another person (possibly you?) calling to them from across an empty room.

Good Luck!
Reply:the poem is beautiful.

to me it meant the two lover's died in December.

and always try to meet at the same place after

death.

good luck laney
Reply:The first one I would probably draw a holly tree, flowers, and just some plants that you think describe some of the things. The second one, I would probably draw a girl with pretty, silver hair flying in the breeze with a guy or girl that looks like they are talking to her. I don't know about poetry very much but I would look at some Shel Silverstein books, try to get some ideas from the pictures he draws of his poetry. Hope I helped!
