I'm studying Japanese in university, and today is our last day. Alot of the class are from overseas, and can't return home to visit their families during the winter break, so I made sweets for everyone as a gift, including some for my professor and her four-year old daughter, as a thank you for teaching me. What's the correct way to present the gift to her?
How do you give a gift to a Japanese person?
For Japanese people, the presentation ritual is as important as the gift itself. It must be elaborately wrapped.

Reply:hand it to them they may or not open it in front of you. Being here they more than likely will but don't expect it. also you may get a few gifts back (not what you gave them) I know when we visited my husbands aunt's family in Tokyo we gave them a gift they sent us one and it went back and forth for a little bit.
